Companion Life Promotes J. Philip Gardham to Vice President

Companion Life Insurance Co. announced today that J. Philip Gardham, its executive marketing officer for specialty markets since 2006, has been promoted to vice president, specialty markets.
In his new position, Gardham will be responsible for many of the company’s stop loss programs, as well as most of the non-stop loss program business.

“This is a well-earned promotion for Phil,” said Trescott N. Hinton Jr., president of Companion Life. “Phil’s experience and dedication to delivering quality service to our clients have helped Companion Life realize substantial growth, not only in our stop loss product, but also in other health insurance products we offer.”

Gardham, a native of Toronto, has helped direct Companion Life’s stop loss programs since joining the company in 2006. Before coming to Companion Life, Gardham was a vice president of underwriting for American Reinsurance Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Munich Re located in Princeton, N.J. Gardham began his career in 1988 in the claims and care management department of Mercantile and General Reinsurance Co. (M&G) in Toronto. He was later promoted to vice president, sales and marketing, for M&G subsidiary ecuCare in Portland, Maine. Gardham received a bachelor’s degree in political science from Toronto’s McMaster University in 1987.
