Companion Life Announces Retirement of Specialty Markets VP

Columbia, S.C. – Roy Hutchison has retired after more than 20 years with Companion Life Insurance Company. He created, and then led the specialty markets area for most of his tenure.

“We thank Roy for his 20 years of leadership and loyalty to the company. He’s been a mentor and a very good friend to me and to all of us in the industry. His tireless energy will be missed,” Companion Life President Trescott Hinton Jr. said. “We congratulate him and look forward to celebrating his retirement with him in the future.”

Hinton said Hutchison led Companion Life’s specialty markets area to an annual premium level of $390 million in 2012.

“In growing this area, Roy has established relationships with many of the industry’s top reinsurers, intermediaries, brokers, business leaders and MGUs,” Hinton said. “He also began Companion’s MGU acquisition strategy that has resulted in exceptional growth of our stop loss portfolio.”

Hinton said Phil Gardham will lead Companion Life’s specialty markets area. Gardham has been with the company for more than six years.

“We’re fortunate to have Phil to lead our specialty markets area,” Hinton said. “With his skills and expertise, we’ll continue to excel in those endeavors.”
